Red Bull Racing F1 team principal Christian Horner praised Max Verstappen after the Dutchman broke another record during the 2023 Mexico City Grand Prix.
The last two seasons have been dominated by Red Bull and Max Verstappen, who sealed his third World Championship title already in Qatar.
F1 fans expected Verstappen to somehow sit back and relax after he secured the title, but the Dutchman keeps on winning and breaking records.
Most recently, the 26-year-old broke his own record for the most wins in a single season from previous the previous year. His team principal, Christian Horner said as quoted by PlanetF1:
"I think all the greats had a huge hunger and determination. I think Max even takes that to another level. He’s not obsessive in chasing records or statistics – although he knows more than you think – but he has an inner desire, an inner belief, an inner hunger that drives him."
Many of the World Champions have that desire to constantly dominate and win, not getting satisfied with one good result. Horner says Verstappen is just like that.
"If you look across some of the greats across many sports, you see that as a common trait. He’s an out-and-out racer."
The 26-year-old loves racing as a whole, not just Formula One, and he mentioned he does not plan to stay in F1 forever. While he already owns an E-sports team, he mentioned he would like to try endurance racing.
He just wants to race and whether it’s racing grand prix cars or racing online, he’s hugely competitive, hugely hungry.
After winning the 16th race of the season in Mexico City, Verstappen already mentioned he is focused on getting that 17th win. Horner concluded the Dutchman certainly doesn't lack motivation.
"He doesn’t want to leave anything on the table, whether it’s a sprint race, whether it’s a grand prix, whether it’s a qualifying session and the one thing that he certainly doesn’t lack is motivation in any way, shape or form."
