Former F1 racer Christian Danner shared his opinion on
Aston Martin driver
Lance Stroll and his situation in the sport of Formula One.
Even though Aston Martin managed to build a competitive car for their drivers at the beginning of the season, Lance Stroll has not been able to make the most out of it.
The Canadian driver has not been able to measure up to his teammate, two-time World Champion Fernando Alonso. Stroll is currently 11th in the Drivers' Championship with 53 points.
To put things in perspective, Alonso is fifth with 183 points. Consequently, Stroll has been criticized for collecting three times fewer points than his teammate.
The frustration could also be observable in the 25-year-old after Qualifying in Qatar when he
shoved his trainer after getting out of the car. Former F1 racer Christian Danner told German publication
Sport1.de:
"If someone approaches the matter with such listlessness, then there is a lack of fundamental love for this profession, for this privilege of being allowed to drive a Formula 1 car."
Danner might be trying to say it is a great privilege as only 20 people in the World can currently compete in Formula One during the same race.
"I don’t see that in him by a long shot. The fact is that Stroll is underperforming. I, as Lance Stroll, a grown man, Do I want to continue being a racing driver?"
Lacking so much behind his teammate, Stroll has a lot of space for improvement, but he seems to be struggling with finding the pace.
"He has to make the decision for himself, do I have room for improvement here, is there something going forward? If so: what do I have to do for that."
Danner also made a comparison between Stroll and former F1 driver Nicholas Latifi who recently announced he is switching from racing to go and focus on studying business.
He said Latifi made “a good and courageous decision in the life of a young man." Danner suggested Stroll should reconsider whether F1 is what he really wants to do.
"I think this decision-making process – what’s the point of all this, do I really want this – is what Stroll needs to do now. It’s no use if I’m just running around, being grumpy, and in a bad mood."
