Red Bull Racing F1 driver
Sergio Perez said he is "more comfortable in the car" and wants to maximize his chances in Sao Paulo.
Sergio Perez had a tough week having to psychologically recover from the "devastating" home race at
Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, where he
had to retire after a lap one collision.
Lewis Hamilton recently highlighted the ability of Mexican drivers to recover. Checo explained to the media ahead of the 2023
Sao Paulo Grand Prix sprint weekend, he has to look ahead and not back.
"Mexico was devastating for me but in this sport these things happen, and you can’t afford to keep going over what could have been."
The 33-year-old admitted he wanted to win at his home race more than anywhere else in the Formula One calendar, but he is already in full focus on this week's sprint weekend.
"I wanted to win my home race more than anything but that is gone now and my full focus is on finishing second in the Championship. We need to have a great weekend in Brazil and I feel confident in our ability to get results right now."
Perez had an insane start In Mexico City when he moved from fifth to first position before the first corner. It seems that he is starting to feel the car better after he recently confessed he didn't feel comfortable in the Red Bull car.
"It felt like things were coming together last weekend with the direction we are taking, I am more comfortable in the car, the work the Team and I have put in together is paying off in terms of set up and performance."
The current gap between Sergio Perez in second place in the Constructors' Championship and Lewis Hamilton in the third is 19 points. Checo will need to score better than the seven-time World Champion this weekend.
"Brazil is a totally different challenge to Mexico but it’s always a fun track and we have two opportunities to score points this weekend, so while Sprint weekends are a challenge on set up, we want to maximise this chance all we can."
