McLaren Formula One driver Lando Norris recently said his team is in the best place it has been for the last ten years.
Lando Norris recently praised McLaren for one of the biggest turnaround Formula One has seen in a long time as the team went from the back of the grid to being the third-best in the second half of the season.
It seems like McLaren is on a great trajectory to achieve even more success in 2024. After being asked whether McLaren is set for a big year in 2024, Norris told Sky Sports:
"I hate ever being confident or overconfident about things, I'm never that kind of guy."
The 24-year-old shared he does not like predicting results multiple times throughout the 2023 season. On the other hand, he suggested that 2024 could be a decent year for his team.
"But I think so, because of what we have. We have a lot more things in place, of course we've got a few new guys who are starting as well, coming from other teams."
The Brit was not avoiding predictions when he was asked whether his first win will be with McLaren, He said "100 percent" he expects the win to come in 2024.
"But now we're in the strongest place we've been for probably the last 10 years, I feel like we've got more things to look forward to next year - we've finally got the wind tunnel properly going and so many things which are coming together more than ever."
McLaren team principal also recently shared there is a lot of new exciting stuff coming for McLaren, but he said the team would feel the full effect of changes earliest in 2025. Norris continued:
"If there's ever a time in my life, over the last five years, I want to be a bit more confident, it's probably going into 2024."
Other F1 teams look to McLaren as an example of how big steps forward in performance are possible. The team managed to end the season incredibly well despite a very bad start. Norris suggests 2024 could be even better because his team has a chance for a better start.
"Because we just need to start the season off well. This year we started off terribly and we've still ended up being very, very strong. So if we can start the season a little bit strong, at least, then I think it can be a great year."
