McLaren driver Lando Norris recently shared he is confident his first Formula One victory will come in 2024.
The final race in Abu Dhabi concluded Norris's fifth season in Formula One. The 24-year-old spent all of his seasons driving for McLaren and achieved 13 podiums with the team, but he is still waiting for his first victory.
McLaren made a huge progress in 2023 which allowed Norris to compete for podiums on a regular basis and the Brit believes his next win is close. When asked whether he believes he will achieve his first win with McLaren, he told Sky Sports:
"100 percent, yeah. Because it's going to be next year, and I'm with McLaren next year. I feel like we're so close."
Norris achieved six second-place finishes in the 2023 season. Each time, he only needed one mistake from the driver in the lead, however, it never came. He continued:
"There are those times where if it just goes well, we can be there, but it's just those last little things that we need from the car, stuff we've not been able to tackle this year. But I feel like we can tackle a little bit more over the winter and into 2024."
Norris previously mentioned it was very small details that separated him and McLaren from the win during the 2023 Sao Paulo Grand Prix, as Max Verstappen in the lead was just a tiny bit quicker every lap.
"Just like race pace and tyre preservation, little things which sometimes are overlooked from an outside perspective, but when you're driving, you're like, 'damn, if I just had this little thing, I could push more consistently, and if I had this I could race better.'"
McLaren was the third-best team in the second half of the season, just a few points behind Ferrari, and it seems the team is indeed on a great trajectory going into 2024.
