Surprising statistics reveal which teams were the strongest in the second part of the action-packed 2023 season.
Points collected in the second part of the season are an important set of data going into 2024 because they tell us which teams made the biggest progress throughout the season and which teams will have a headstart going into 2024.
Not surprisingly, Red Bull Racing is at the top with quite a comfortable margin, as the F1 team won 10 out of 11 races in the second half of the season. Still, the gap to the second team came a bit down from the first half of 2023.
Moving to the second team, we started to deviate from the Constructors' Championship results. Even though Mercedes snatched the second place in the Championship this season, it was only fourth best in the second half.
As Charles Leclerc said, his team made significant progress throughout this season, and it shows. Ferrari would have been second under current circumstances and currently seems like the most likely team to challenge Red Bull for the title in 2024.
McLaren finished fourth in the Championship with 302 points, out of which 199 were accumulated during the second part of the season, underlining the significant progress of the Papaya team.
Aston Martin followed the trajectory opposite to McLaren's. The team started the 2023 season very strong - as the second-fastest team on the grid and then fell back. Only 84 out of 280 points were collected in the second half.
AlphaTauri is the last team that made great gains towards the end of the season. The team was dead last in the Constructors' Championship but moved up two positions after amassing 23 out of their 25 points in the last 11 races.
Williams collected more points in the last 11 races than in the first half of the season, but it wasn't that significant, and it could be attributed to different tracks suiting their car better.
The last two teams - Alfa Romeo and Haas, failed to bring effective upgrades and struggled greatly in the final stages of the 2023 season.
