Aston Martin driver
Lance Stroll shared his thoughts after an amazing recovery race at the
Las Vegas Strip circuit, starting from the 19th place on the grid.
The 2023
Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend did not start well for Lance Stroll. The Canadian driver qualified in P19. In comparison, his teammate
Fernando Alonso qualified in P10.
On the other hand, the race went a lot better for the 25-year-old as opposed to his Spanish teammate, who
spun around in the first corner of the opening lap.
Lance Stroll had one of the strongest first laps of the 2023 season when he went from P19 to P9, gaining ten positions. As quoted by formula1.com, the Aston Martin driver told the media:
"That was a fun race! I gained 10 positions in the first corner with a lot of other drivers going wide, moving up from P19 to P9, so it immediately felt like it was all to play for."
From that point on, it was a smooth operation from Stroll who crossed the line in P6. At the end of the race, he gained one more position because of
George Russell's penalty.
"From that point, we were on the front foot and attacking throughout the race with a quick car. We made some good strategy calls, pitting under both Safety Cars, and then I was able to pass a few cars into Turn One to secure P5."
The Candian driver finished four positions ahead of his teammate Fernando Alonso in P9 and beat drivers like
Lewis Hamilton,
Oscar Piastri, and
Carlos Sainz. Stroll concluded:
"It was a great track to race at, and I’m pleased we were able to put on a good show for the fans."
Aston Martin team managed to keep the Championship battle with
McLaren for the fourth place going, with a gap of 11 points before the last race of the season in
Abu Dhabi.
