Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner revealed Max Verstappen wanted to wear an Elvis-styled racing suit for the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix.
Red Bull's F1 driver Max Verstappen has been critical of the 2023 Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend mainly because, to him, it seemed like it was "99% show and 1% sporting event."
The Dutchman made it clear his primary focus and interest is in the racing itself and does not need all the show around it to have fun.
The three-time World Champion also said the circuit did not look like it was designed to offer a racing spectacle. However, the opposite turned out to be true.
The race at the Las Vegas Strip circuit was one of the most eventful, action-packed, and exciting races of the 2023 season, and even Verstappen himself admitted afterward he enjoyed the race very much.
His team principal, Christian Horner, explained to the media after the race that Verstappen was not critical of the race itself but rather of the show around it.
"He wasn't judging the race. I think he was judging what he feels. He feels a little uncomfortable with the show element, the Super Bowl effect of what was applied. But in terms of the race, he would have certainly enjoyed it.
Considering Verstappen's previous negative comments about the show associated with the event, it was very surprising for F1 fans to see him pull up in an Elvis suit for the Grand Prix.
Horner revealed the team introduced the idea to the Dutchman a lot sooner and apparently, he was in on the idea. The Red Bull team principal added:
"We showed him that weeks ago. It was something that he was aware of and bought into. To have both Elvises on the podium, it was a great result."
