Aston Martin's driver Lance Stroll asserted he plans to beat his more experienced teammate Fernando Alonso in 2024.
The last few years in Formula 1 have been tough for Lance Stroll. The Canadian driver couldn't beat his teammate ever since the season of 2018.
However, the 2023 was critical because the 42-year-old Fernando Alonso beat him by 130 points and six positions in the Drivers' Championship standings.
Last season was also probably his first season in F1 when the 25-year-old had a real opportunity to score multiple podiums. While he couldn't score one, Alonso amassed eight of them.
The stats from 2023 don't speak in favor of the Canadian driver. However, his team principal, Mike Krack, asserted he learned a lot from Alonso. Could we expect to see substantial improvement from Stroll in 2024?
The Canadian driver also mentioned the big point gap between him and the double-world champion was caused by quite a few unlucky moments.
However, in 2024, everyone starts with a blank sheet of paper, and Stroll will have a chance to redeem himself and show everyone he has what it takes.
Asked about his competitiveness and personal targets for the season in relation to competing against his Spanish teammate, the 25-year-old responded:
"I mean, I'm always competitive with it. You know, I want to beat whoever is my teammate. You know we're all competitive in this sport, and he is an incredible talent."
Stroll is not in an easy position. The Spanish Matador is the most experienced driver in Formula 1 at the moment, and he obviously feels confident in Aston Martin after a successful season in 2023.
Nevertheless, the Canadian driver stayed confident (as every F1 driver probably should) and stated his plan is to "kick some butt for sure."
"He's got a lot of experience, but, yeah, I want to kick some butt for sure. That's the plan."
