Alfa Romeo F1 team principal
Alessandro Alunni Bravi reacted to both team drivers finishing outside of point position at the 2023
Mexico City Grand Prix.
Alfa Romeo had a very positive start to the race at
Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez when both
Valtteri Bottas and
Zhou Guanyu made it to the top ten in the qualifying on Saturday.
Bottas started the race from P9 and Zhou from P10. Throughout the race, however, both drivers fell down the grid. Eventually, the Alfa Romeo team was the last to cross the line.
Zhou finished in P14, while Bottas finished in P15. The Finn received a 5-second penalty after a collision with
Aston Martin driver
Lance Stroll, who had to retire from the race as a consequence.
The Alfa Romeo team representative who currently serves as a team principal, Alessandro Alunni Bravi, took positives from the weekend, pointing towards a great Qualifying session. As reported by
GPblog, he said:
"Still, we keep our head high and our eyes set on our target. We have shown an improvement in terms of qualifying pace, and the next step is to further improve our race pace, too."
The performances of Alfa Romeo have been up and down throughout the season. The team achieved a double-point finish in
Qatar and then did not score in the
United States and
Mexico City.
Their main rival,
Haas, has also been
struggling to understand newly introduced upgrades, scoring zero points in the last two races.
On the other hand,
AlphaTauri, which has been in last place far away from both teams, collected 11 points in the last two races and jumped from last place in the Championship to eighth place, taking the position from Alfa Romeo.
While AlphaTauri overtook Alpha Romeo in the Constructors' Championship, both teams have an equal amount of points, and the battle for the eighth place stays very much open with three race weekends remaining.
"Brazil is the final Sprint event of the season, which means we have once again twice the chances to score points this weekend, and the aim is to make the best out of it."
