Former F1 driver Johny Herbert suggested Max Verstappen's move to Mercedes is becoming more and more possible.
We are currently in summer break, and at this point of the season, the seats in all the top teams except for Mercedes are pretty much locked up.
Even though all alternatives from the current grid that Toto Wolff was considering are now gone, he keeps prolonging his decision just in case Max Verstappen decides he has had enough at Red Bull.
The team from Milton Keynes has slowly been losing ground, and they no longer have the fastest car. The triple World Champion hasn't won four races in a row, which hasn't happened since the 2020 season.
Speaking to Topoffshoresportsbrooks.com, three-time Grand Prix winner Johny Herbert suggested that a possible move from Red Bull to Mercedes is becoming more likely for the 26-year-old.
"It's quite a turnaround, from a situation where they had dominated all season to now struggling to get on the podium."
"There is only one place really, and that is Mercedes. Toto Wolff is desperate to get Max on the books. The stars are aligning for a move there."
The triple World Champion has long been vocal about his concerns about Red Bull's pace, but not many people probably took it seriously while he was still winning. According to the former F1 driver, the Dutchman is "starting to lose respect" for his team. He added:
"Max sounds like a driver who is starting to lose respect for Red Bull. He is making a few mistakes. The car is not performing like it was."
"His frustrations come out for the world to hear. I like drivers who show passion! It is a pressure, though he can carry going forward. That is what the best in sport can do, deploy a winning mentality."
