Lando Norris discussed the relationship with his teammate Oscar Piastri following the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix.
How is the 13th round of the 2024 season at Budapest significant for the relationship between the two McLaren F1 drivers? It was here that the two really had the opportunity to battle for the win for the first time.
The battle could have been wheel-to-wheel, but instead, it took place on the team radio. McLaren unfairly called Norris to pit earlier, which allowed him to undercut his teammate (in the lead).
The British team then wanted Norris to give up the position of race leader to his teammate, which the 24-year-old, of course, didn't like and didn't want to do.
Although he finally obeyed, the whole situation made Piastri's first victory in F1 a bit less enjoyable, and there was definitely a lot to discuss behind closed doors after the Grand Prix.
Asked at the beginning of the summer break what impact the race in Hungary had on the relationship with his Australian teammate, Norris told Sky Sports:
"Very good, and I would say even better after Hungary. Yes, things are always going to be questioned and almost blown out of proportion a little bit, but we're good, the team are in a very good form."
Moving on from the topic about him and Piastri, Norris highlighted the atmosphere in the McLaren, which is closing the gap to Red Bull in the Cosntructors' Championship and might seriously challenge for the title this season.
"We're all trusting one another, we're all working together very well and for us, that's the most important thing. It's the strength of ours."
"It's where we are now, doing what we are now, and that's performing as one of the best teams, if not the best team, in Formula One."
