Lando Norris had one week to think about the tense situation with his team from the 2024 Hungarian Grand Prix, and he now revealed what he would have done differently.

McLaren driver Lando Norris took the lead in Hungary because his team called him to pit earlier than his teammate, which allowed him to undercut Oscar Piastri.

This was a bit unfair towards the Australian driver, so McLaren told Norris to swap back positions right after Piastri came out of the pits.

However, the 24-year-old made it much tougher than it needed to be and only let his teammate through after many laps of arguing on the team radio.

In the meantime, he proved on the track that he was faster, which also made Piastri's victory a bit less enjoyable. Looking back at this situation ahead of the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix, the McLaren driver said:

"Could it have been handled slightly differently from both a team side and from a personal side? Yeah, absolutely. I think we would not be having this conversation now in some ways."

Asked what exactly he would have done differently if he had the chance to go back and turn things around, the 24-year-old F1 driver responded:

"Just let him [Piastri] pass straight away. It's such a stupid thing that I didn't, because we're free to race."
"I could have just let him pass, still tried to overtake and to race him. It sounds so simple now, but it's not something that went through my head at the time."

It was very challenging to overtake someone with a similar car at Hungaroring, but Norris proved he was faster in the final stint, so he perhaps could have overtaken his teammate. He added:

"It's such a simple thing like that. You know, I could have done it, but I was just in a good rhythm, and things were going well at the time. So, I questioned the team a few times."
"I knew from as soon as he they boxed me before him, that I was going to have to let him go. I was a bit silly and didn't think of letting him go earlier."
