Lewis Hamilton shared his opinion on the Drivers' Championship, saying, "It's not impossible" for
Lando Norris to beat
Max Verstappen.
The latest race- the 2024 Belgian Grand Prix, was the 14th round of the season. The 2024 season has 24 race weekends, which means there are 10 to go (after the summer break).
With ten weekends to go, Max Verstappen (277 points) leads the Drivers' Championship, 78 points ahead of Lando Norris (199 points) in second place.
The seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton was told what the gap between the two drivers is, and although he admitted that it was not a lot, he asserted that the
McLaren driver could catch up with Verstappen. As reported by
Grandprix.com, he said:
"That's a big number. It's been a while since I fought for the title, but I think there was a point where I was 40 points behind. McLaren is performing very well, so it's not impossible. But it will be a very, very big challenge."
In order to catch up with the 26-year-old
Red Bull Racing driver, Norris would have to outperform him by more than
7,8 points on average every single race from now on.
This means that even if the McLaren driver won every single race from now on and the Dutchman always finished just behind him in second place, it wouldn't be enough.
If the
24-year-old Briton wanted to win the Championship, Verstappen would have to either be very unlucky or make many mistakes, which we know is quite unlikely.
On the other hand, McLaren can still very much compete for the constructors' title, as they have been catching up with the team from Milton Keynes at a rapid pace.
The current gap between Red Bull and McLaren is only 42 points, and that's not a lot if you consider that it can go down by as much as 44 points in one weekend.
