Lando Norris, like every driver in F1, wants to win the World Championships, but he knows that to do that, he can't afford to make mistakes.
Since the Brit's first career race win at the Miami Grand Prix, McLaren always had a car that could have contested for a win. Still, the 24-year-old wasn't able to add another Grand Prix win since then.
His teammate, Oscar Piastri, added his name to the list of winners during the controversial Hungarian Grand Prix when Norris was requested to let Piastri overtake him when leading the race because of the team's bad strategy call.
Currently second in the World Drivers' Championship, Norris probably can't realistically think about winning the title, even though it's still possible, given Red Bull's recent struggles.
That's why, when talking to Sky F1, the Brit was asked about his possible title chances in 2025, as McLaren would like to continue with the progress also into the following season.
"It’s always nice to say things like that, and have that optimism. I've got to work on myself and work on a few things first. I feel like I've had the car and I've got what I need around me."
Although optimistic about his chances for the following season, Norris is aware of the fact that the future is uncertain, and one thing that is certain is the present, which he could have shaped differently, had he made fewer mistakes in the past races that cost him a better position in the World Drivers' Championship.
"I've probably made a few too many mistakes. I've made a few too many mistakes over the last month or so, I've lost opportunities. It’s my starts, just some decision-making here and there. It’s small things that have had big consequences."
"A lot of stuff now in F1, a small difference will have a big consequence because it's so close. I know that and I know I've got to work on my things and keep focused so that's what I’ll use the summer break for. As much as it is to disconnect, it’s to review a lot of things and make sure I come back stronger."
