Scuderia Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz lamented the last two unsuccessful races of the 2023 season in Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi.
Carlos Sainz ended the 2023 F1 season in seventh place in the Drivers' Championship. The Spaniard was separated by only six points from Fernando Alonso and Charles Leclerc in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
The 29-year-old won the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix and consequently became the only non-Red Bull Racing driver to win a Grand Prix this season.
While the Ferrari driver showed a very strong pace this season, he has been quite unfortunate in the last two races - the Las Vegas Grand Prix and the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. Sainz told the media:
"It's been a decent year for me, I think we've had a more consistent year. I'm not happy with the last two races, I think we've had a much stronger season than what these last two weekends have shown."
Scuderia Ferrari came close to achieving second place in the Constructor's Championship, but Sainz failed to qualify inside the top ten in Abu Dhabi and did not achieve a single point during the race due to risky strategy.
"The way that everything has gone wrong for me in these last two races has been quite dramatic in a way, but it is what it is - sometimes the years go like this."
Sainz was surprised by the fact he had such an unfortunate and unsuccessful end to the 2023 season as he described he usually performs better towards the end.
"Normally the end of season is my biggest strength and this season it hasn't. We need to sit down, analyse what I could have done better for the last couple of races and comeback strong."
On the other hand, the Ferrari driver had a very strong season and showed his team why he deserves his seat. Now, he can focus on contract negotiations past 2025.
