Former F1 driver Martin Brundle identified Sergio Perez as the cork in the bottle when it comes to Carlos Sainz's 2025 team decisions.
Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz won't have a seat next year with the team he is racing for right now. While he was a very solid driver that worked well with the team, Scuderia decided to replace him.
The Italian team picked the seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton instead, a decision that has been heavily disputed over recent weeks.
Martin Brundle, on the other hand, suggested he can understand what the Maranello team is doing by signing the 39-year-old driver.
"I can understand what Ferrari have done, two biggest brands in Formula One probably are Ferrari and Lewis Hamilton right now, and they’re joining up and it’s a great story."
There will be an empty seat in Mercedes, which could potentially be an option for the Spaniard, but the former F1 driver doesn't believe he will be the German team's priority.
"I think Mercedes, if Antonelli is ready, they'll try and put Antonelli in Lewis Hamilton seat."
Probably the best option for Sainz would be to join Red Bull because he's almost guaranteed to have a Championship-contending car there in 2025.
However, Christian Horner said the Mexican driver remains his team's priority, and if he performs well this season, he might very well get his contract extended.
If Perez didn't deliver, Brundle asserted Sainz would be a "no-brainer" option for the team from Milton Keynes as he has all they could wish for.
"So will Perez kick the Red Bull seat? That’s the key, that’s the cork in the bottle. Because putting Sainz in the Red Bull would be a no-brainer for me – or Aston Martin or Mercedes Benz for that matter. He’s now got the experience, got speed, he still got youth on his side."
