Helmut Marko responded to the statement made by Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff after the 2024 Japanese Grand Prix.
Helmut Marko found some positives after Red Bull's failed race in Australia when he said he would at least not be asked every week whether Red Bull could win every race of the season.
However, it seems he just won't be able to dodge questions of a similar kind. After the most recent race in Japan, Toto Wolff stated that no one is going to catch Red Bull and Max Verstappen this season.
OE24 approached the 80-year-old Red Bull's motorsport advisor with the comment from the team principal of Silver Arrows, and he responded:
"Please leave me alone! We've only done four races, 20 more to come. In Melbourne we saw how quickly everything can change. Ferrari is strong and reliable, we can't write them off yet."
Red Bull Racing's team principal, Christian Horner, also responded to Wolff's comment by saying he "learned not to listen too much to what Toto says."
He also emphasized the same point as Marko, Saying we are only in 1/6 of the 2024 season, and it is too early to write off their competitors.
The only team that seems to have a hope of posing a threat to the team from Milton Keynes is Ferrari, which has been the second fastest in all four race weekends so far.
The team from Maranello currently stands second in the Constructors' Championship, 21 points behind Red Bull, and is prepared to profit from any opportunity.
Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc proved it in Australia, where they earned maximum points for their team. Scuderia also hopes to catch up with Red Bull with their next major upgrade, which will be introduced at Imola Circuit- during the seventh race of the 2024 season.
