Ralf Schumacher suggested Williams Racing should axe Logan Sargeant after the 2024 Japanese Grand Prix weekend.
The last two racing weekends have been particularly challenging for the Williams Racing F1 driver Logan Sargeant. In Australia, he had to give his car to Alex Albon.
And then, in Japan, he crashed his car during the first practice session. Despite claiming that he felt better psychologically ahead of the weekend, he made multiple mistakes and almost crashed again during the race.
Speaking to Sky Germany, Ralf Schumacher acknowledged that the 23-year-old is closer to his more experienced teammate but also suggested it might be time for him to do something else.
"You have to be fair, he's definitely gotten closer to Albon. But he just makes too many mistakes. That's evident in that he runs over the car."
"It just keeps coming back to the same thing – he's simply overwhelmed and it's time for him to realize it and probably do something different."
According to Planet F1, the former F1 driver feels Willaims should axe Sageant even before 2025 but "can't imagine anything changing before Miami."
Williams decided to make a very risky bet of not bringing the third chassis to the first few race weekends of the season, so if there is any team that doesn't want their drivers to crash, it's Williams.
However, there is no other F1 team on the grid that has suffered as much damage as Williams ever since the start of the season.
It is important to note that Sargeant probably caused less damage than his teammate this time. Albon completely destroyed his car in Australia and had a big crash on the first lap in Japan after a collision with Daniel Ricciardo.
As Planet F1 claims, Williams Racing has reportedly suffered more than $2 million in damage from accidents in the first four rounds of the 2024 season.
