Carlos Sainz confessed he felt it was "shame" and "annoying" that he knows he has to leave Ferrari after the end of the 2024 season.
Ferrari decided ahead of this season that they would like to replace Carlos Sainz with the seven-time World Champion. Lewis Hamilton before the start of 2025.
The 29-year-old still had a contract for this season with them, and it was suggested that this would create a weird dynamic inside the team now that Sainz knows he is being ditched but still has to work with the team.
However, it only led to Sainz improving. While he would say he was driving very similarly before, he has never had as good of a start to the season as this year. Three podiums in three races with one win is a stat that speaks for itself.
Reflecting on his current situation and how he operates with his team of engineers, Sainz admitted to DAZN after the most recent race in Japan that it "felt a bit annoying" knowing he had to leave in the end.
"It's a shame that I can't continue at Ferrari next year looking at how good we are working with my group of engineers, mechanics. It's a little bit annoying that I have to leave."
The Spaniard still hasn't signed with any of the teams, so he is practically jobless after the 2024 season ends. However, there is no fear over whether he will be able to find himself a seat.
The only problem is that he wants to find a team that will allow him to compete for the Championship, and it isn't yet clear whether some of the top teams would prioritize him over their other choices. He added:
"But, on the other side I have the doors open to go to another team where I hope I can fight for that championship that I've been chasing with Ferrari during the last three, four years."
"So now it's time to take important decisions. Everyone knows that I'm available and I'm fast! Let's see what happens."
