Helmut Marko was approached with questions about the potential sale of Racing Bulls in one of his most recent interviews, and he said, "Nothing has been decided yet."
Racing Bulls, or
RB, is a
Red Bull-owned team. Red Bull currently owns two teams in Formula 1: Red Bull Racing and Racing Bulls.
RB was also previously known as AlphaTauri from 2020 to 2023 or Toro Rosso from 2006 to 2019. Funny enough, there is one driver who has been part of the team during each of these stages-
Daniel Ricciardo.
The Italy-based team underwent a major rebrand between seasons 2023 and 2024.
Part of it was a name change but also a change in sponsors, team principal, organizational structure, and driver philosophy.
The team used to be known as Red Bull's B team or Red Bull's junior team, as it gave young drivers from Red Bull Academy a chance to get some experience in F1 and show their potential.
However, the Racing Bulls were trying to change their status to Red Bull's junior team and now wanted to compete for higher positions in the Championship.
Many of the changes that Red Bull has made with the RB have made it more attractive for potential buyers, and according to
OE24, a rumor has emerged that the team could potentially be put up for sale.
When Red Bull's motorsport advisor Helmut Marko was asked about the speculations, he surprisingly didn't deny them as he said:
"There are a lot of interested parties, but ultimately it's a shareholder decision. The price is high for a team, nothing has been decided yet."
Red Bull Racing and RB are currently the only two teams in F1 owned by the same owner, which is something that has been pointed out as a problem a couple of times over the past two seasons.
McLaren CEO Zak Brown has been perhaps the loudest voice in this conversation, repeatedly elaborating that such a relationship between two teams could lead to an unfair advantage.
Selling the team would, of course, solve this situation, and there are some people, like Andretti (whose application for the 11th team in F1 was rejected this year), who might be interested in the purchase.
