Formula 1 World Champion and former Mercedes driver Nico Rosberg dismissed the option of a possible comeback to his former team as Lewis Hamilton's replacement.
Nico Rosberg drover in Formula One in seasons 2006-2016. The German driver spent four of his 11 seasons in F1 with Williams and the remaining seven with Mercedes.
He formed the first Mercedes duo with Michael Schumacher when the team was established in 2010. Rosbeg then came out on top in all of the three following seasons that he spent together in the team with the legendary Champion.
Later, he was joined by Lewis Hamilton and raced for Silver Arrows until the end of the season in 2016, when he won the F1 World Championship title and retired.
The connection between the 38-year-old and the German brand is obviously very strong, but he has been out of Formula 1 for a very long time. Nevertheless, that didn't stop a few from speculating about his possible return.
However, Rosberg himself clarified his position in a recent interview with the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung when he said he wasn't planning a comeback.
"That's over, I'm not planning a comeback. I have great respect for the danger. I couldn't just do that either. I would have to prepare intensively for a whole year, if only to train the synapses (neuron connectors) in my brain."
Hamilton leaving Mercedes is a big loss for the team, and Toto Wolff might be in need of someone experienced who he knows could match the performances of the 39-year-old. However, the German former F1 driver asserted it won't be him as he explained:
"A racing driver has to react super-fast at top speed and be precise. I've lost that after the long break. The muscles are also put under so much strain, just to hold the steering wheel with all the centrifugal forces."
