AlphaTauri driver
Daniel Ricciardo discussed the possibility of working alongside
Max Verstappen in the
Red Bull Racing F1 team.
Daniel Ricciardo reunited with the Red Bull team in the position of third and test driver for the season 2023
after being "kicked out" of McLaren.
Even though the Honey Badger managed to achieve the only win for
McLaren during seasons 2021 and 2022, his performances, in general, were not up to the higher standard set by his teammate
Lando Norris.
After the two rough seasons in McLaren, the team had decided to cancel the contract with Ricciardo who was then left without a seat for the season 2023 until he joined the AlphaTauri to replace Nyck De Vries in the middle of the season.
In the last few weeks, there has also been a lot of speculation around the second seat in Red Bull Racing which currently belongs to Sergio Perez.
The Mexican driver currently lacks more than 200 points to his teammate Max Verstappen.
People like Helmut Marko said Perez "needs change in climate and team."There were also rumors claiming there was an ultimatum for Checo to finish second in the Drivers' Championship, or otherwise, he would not have a seat in the Red Bull for the next season.
Even though these rumors have been denied by both Perez and his team principal
Christian Horner, Perez's contract ends after the season 2024 and it does not seem like Red Bull would be too keen to keep him based on current performances.
One of the drivers that Red Bull could possibly consider to replace Perez is Daniel Ricciardo. In a conversation with
Sky Sports, the Australian commented on the possibility of working with Verstappen:
"It would be different. I think it would be very different just from, probably where we’re both are, in our career."
The Honey Badger has worked with Verstappen in the past for Red Bull. Back then, the two drivers were great rivals. If Ricciardo joined Red Bull now, it would be in the position of number two driver.
