The head of Red Bull's performance engineering division, Ben Waterhouse, suggested that the Red Bull Racing team is already shifting their focus to the 2025 car.
As we all know by now, Red Bull's RB19 turned out to be the most dominant car in F1 history, allowing Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez to win 21 out of 22 races and break multiple incredible records.
On the other hand, it seems many people from the British team agree the car still could be improved. Ben Waterhouse stated the Singapore Grand Prix weekend exposed RP19's weaknesses. According to formulapassion.it, he said:
"We are aware that the RB19 had considerable limitations. If we think back to Singapore, weaknesses have certainly emerged."
Going into 2024, Verstappen said he would like to improve performance in slow corners, on bumpy tracks as well as curb riding. Waterhouse continued:
"There are areas we want to improve, be it performance at high or low speeds. At the same time, [the machine] had clear strong points, which we want to enhance while at the same time trying to address its critical issues."
Red Bull's chief technical officer Adrian Newey said he was never satisfied with the car in 2023. The head of engineering agrees, as there is always something to focus on that could be improved.
"I wouldn't say that everyone is satisfied, since there is still some work to do to try to improve compared to the RB19."
While the team worked on eliminating RB19's problems for RB20, it seems like they are almost done, as Waterhouse said, his team is starting to move attention to the RB21 (2025 car).
"The RB20 is a car that is at least six months old and we are already starting to move our attention on the RB21 , even if the season has not yet started."
Could it be that Red Bull is so far ahead of their competitors that it could switch focus to 2025 as soon as 2024 begins? Many fans surely hope not, but we have to wait and see.
