Unlike other drivers on the grid, Oscar Piastri does not show his emotions too often, and he recently explained why he always seems so calm.
In a recent interview for the official Formula 1 website, McLaren driver Oscar Piastri explained how competitive he has been ever since he was a child.
He suggested he has been competitive in every single aspect of his life, even in school. Competitiveness has been a big part of Piastri's success and an essential part of his journey to F1. Asked where his competitiveness comes from, he said:
"I would say it definitely comes from my family, yes. I think it comes from myself, though. Some people maybe don’t see that side because of – I guess – my calmness."
Can you remember the last time you saw Oscar Piastri outraged? You probably can't, and throughout his rookie season in F1, the Australian driver quickly became notorious for being extremely calm. However, the 22-year-old explained it rather focus than calmness.
"But it’s a calmness because of focus rather than a lack of care. That’s the thing with me, but definitely, my family were all competitive people."
Some other drivers, like Max Verstappen, are quite short-tempered and fiery. That obviously does not get their way to success, as the triple World Champion has shown.
On the other hand, Piastri's personality has also worked out quite well for him. His team principal suggested his ability to stay calm and focused on what matters under intense pressure has been one of the key enablers of his rapid growth. The Australian driver added:
"I’ve never been fiery or like that, really. I would say I’ve always been competitive but never really fiery, outspoken, or exuberant. I do things in my own way, and I’m very happy with how it goes."
