Max Verstappen recently suggested he had no doubt ever since junior categories that both he and
Charles Leclerc would make it to Formula One.
Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc are the same age. Both will turn 27 during the 2024 season. Being the same age means they both raced against each other even before Formula 1.
In fact, the Dutchman and Leclerc have been great rivals ever since go-karts. You might have heard about the famous "incident" video that was recorded after one of the go-kart races.
The triple World Champion
remembered this moment during a conference after the Las Vegas Grand Prix in which he had an incident with Leclerc in turn one. He said their debriefings used to be much more intense back in the go-karting days.
Nevertheless, the two drivers have been quite equally matched since they were young. According to
Formula 1, Flying Dutchman also said he never had doubts that both of them would make it into F1 if one of them did.
"I always thought that, if I would make it to F1, Charles will also make it. You can see already from, I think, a young age, the really strong drivers, what they were back then, they are also in F1 now."
For a brief moment at the beginning of the 2022 season, both drivers were in equally matched cars and provided fans with incredible on-track battles.
Both Verstappen and Leclerc have been able to secure a place in the top teams on the grid, and we might see them in a fight for the Championship in the future. The triple World Champion added:
"It’s never been a surprise to me that Charles is sitting here and, of course, after that you need a little bit of luck to be in the right team here and there to get on the front row, but it’s not a surprise that we are sitting here together, I think."
