Sergio Perez said his priority going into the 2024 season isn't his contract with Red Bull, which expires at the end of the year.
Sergio Perez has been with Red Bull ever since the beginning of the season 2021, when he joined the team as a replacement for Alex Albon.
Throughout the three seasons he has spent with Max Verstappen, he has helped the Dutchman and the team achieve three Drivers' and two Constructors' Championships.
However, his performance throughout the 2023 season was far below the high standards set by his teammate, and if Perez can't improve in 2024, his future with the team is at stake.
Checo's contract with Red Bull expires at the end of the upcoming season, and at the moment, it is said his team is already looking for some alternatives. According to Sky Sports, the 34-year-old said:
"It doesn't bother me. I think it's part of the job. I'm out of contract for next year, people know about it."
While he knows his contract is at stake, the Red Bull driver suggested it isn't on his priority list. Right now, his focus needs to be on the performance.
"But to be honest, that's not the priority. I know that if we have a good season, we have good results there will be plenty of options out there."
One of Perez's main struggles during the 2023 season was consistency both throughout qualifying sessions and races. The Mexican driver suggested this will be his main area of focus this year as he added:
"So my main focus is to get that consistency throughout the season, that development to be able to really carry on the form that we start with and be better race by race. I think we are able to do that, we have a really good chance of fighting for the championship."
