McLaren drivers, with their team principal, responded to the fact that their team hid some of the aero details in the photos from the official launch of the car.
As opposed to some other teams on the grid, like Red Bull, McLaren chose a low-profile launch this season. The car was launched at Silverstone without the presence of any media.
The team only shared a few photos on its social media that appeared to disguise some important aerodynamic details. Asked why the team did so, Lando Norris said:
"Because we can! Because it's a game of performance, and why would you ever want to give away anything? So you see what the car looks like. But you'll see in two weeks or something the rest. So, be patient"
Did McLaren come up with something groundbreaking that they want to hide from the competition for as long as possible? We will find out in Bahrain in only three days when the pre-season testing starts.
Oscar Piastri took a dig at Red Bull in response to the situation when he said: "I mean, at least we showed our car before it went on track, unlike others!"
Red Bull Racing launched their car as the last team on Thursday, 15th of February. However, it was spotted on-track at Silverstone Circuit on Tuesday, 13th of February.
In relation to why the Papaya team chose a low-profile type of launch in 2024, the team principal of the British team, Andrea Stella told the media:
"We also see that sometimes you may want to have just a lower profile in launching your car. So, I guess also, these approaches can be alternated over time. And we went from last year's glamorous one to this year, which is low-profile."
The question is, how representative is the MCL38 that the team shared on its social media? Stella said: "I would say pretty accurate. I wouldn't be prepared for anything too shocking."
