Mercedes Formula One team will reportedly improve crucial car components (to boost performance) that the team shares with Aston Martin.
Mercedes F1 team finished the 2023 season in second place ahead of Ferrari by a mere three points and 451 points behind the Red Bull Racing team.
Securing second place ahead of Ferrari during the last race of the season has been an important morale boost for the team, but Toto Wolff suggested Mercedes won't be satisfied with any other result, but first place.
The team principal, therefore, promised a great revolution in Mercedes's car development, and the German team apparently plans to change every single component of their car.
One of the crucial components is the gearbox. According to formu1a.uno, Silver Arrows will introduce a new gearbox in 2024 that should bring much-needed benefits for both themselves and Aston Martin (Mercedes's customer team).
The old gearbox has been blamed as one of the main reasons behind Mercedes's and Aston Martin's weak straight-line performance. Insufficient gearbox forced both teams to make compromises in other parts which further worsened the situation.
However, this is set to change in 2024 as Mercedes is reportedly changing their gearbox. The change eliminates the need to compromise in other areas of the car for both teams.
Aston Martin and Mercedes, along with Ferrari, all promised significant changes in their cars going into 2024. While both Ferrari and Aston already announced their car launch dates, we are still waiting for Mercedes.
The Aston Martin's and Ferrari's cars will be revealed on 12th and 13th February. It is expected that Mercedes will show their W15 (2024 car) to the public either a few days before or after the two previously mentioned teams.
While George Russell said nobody expects to challenge Red Bull at the beginning of the season, many fans would like to see someone to challenge the team from Milton Keynes. Could it be Mercedes and Aston Martin?
