Liam Lawson received another boost ahead of the 2024 season from Former F1 driver Christijan Albers despite the fact he won't be racing for any team.
Liam Lawson
surprised the AlphaTauri team principal with his performance throughout the five races in 2023, during which he got the opportunity to race in Daniel Ricciardo's car.
The 21-year-old showed great adaptability as he got into grips with the F1 car super quickly. Moreover, he also showed incredible speed and consistency when he scored P9 in
Singapore -
AlphaTauri's best result at the time.
Former F1 driver Christijan Albers wrote in his
De Telegraaf column it was a shame to see the young Kiwi driver not getting a seat in F1 after such a fantastic performance.
"Personally, I do think it is a shame that Liam Lawson does not have a seat. As a replacement for the injured Daniel Ricciardo, he did very well for five race weekends."
Despite showing obvious potential, the 21-year-old wasn't able to secure a seat in any F1 car for 2024. Albers believes Lawson deserved the chance.
"I think Lawson deserved a chance, especially in such a training team like AlphaTauri. Shame! Though I wouldn’t be surprised either if that changes during the 2024 season."
The Former F1 driver suggested he would not be surprised to see Lawson back in F1 already during the 2024 season. He explained:
"If Sergio Perez continues like this at Red Bull, I highly rate the chances of him being replaced by Ricciardo, provided he performs well. And then the way will still be clear for Lawson."
There have been rumors about
Daniel Ricciardo having a clause in his contract that would essentially
allow him to replace Perez in Red Bull already during the 2024 season.
In that case, it was suggested the seat in AlphaTauri would be emptied, and Liam Lawson could get his chance to shine again. How likely do you think this scenario is to happen?
