2009 Formula One World Champion
Jenson Button identified the team he believes will most likely bring the challenge to
Red Bull in 2024.
The
million-dollar question ahead of the 2024 season brought up by Zak Brown is: How early did Red Bull start focusing on the 2024 car, and how significant of an advantage will the team have?
There are currently four primary teams that are discussed to have a similar chance at catching up with the team from Milton Keynes. These include
Mercedes,
Ferrari,
McLaren, and
Aston Martin.
Team principal of each of these have shared their confidence in their teams, but they all tried to temper expectations ahead of the first race of the season.
As Aston Martin's team principal stated,
there each team is right now biting their nails and asking whether they've done enough. But the real answers will come in about two months in Bahrain.
Asked which of the four above-mentioned teams is most likely to catch up with Red Bull in 2024, former F1 driver Jenson Button told Sky Sports:
"Mercedes. When you look at the last 10 years in the sport, it's Mercedes and Red Bull, so it would be Mercedes."
While he believes Mercedes is most likely to close the gap, the World Champion also revealed he personally would like to see Ferrari in the Championship fight as well.
"I would love to say Ferrari, I would love to have them in the mix. You could say they were the closest competitor especially towards the end of the season, but I think Mercedes will have a good improvement [for 2024]. Whether it's enough, I don't know."
Both teams are certainly promising significant changes. On the other hand, McLaren has shown great progress over the season, and Aston Martin has been the best over the last winter break. Can any of these teams catch Red Bull? What do you think?
