Lewis Hamilton's frustration must be eating him after two winless seasons, according to former F1 driver Christijan Albers.
In 2021, Lewis Hamilton equaled Michael Schumacher's record for the most consecutive seasons with at least one win. The seven-time World Champion won at least one Grand Prix in 15 consecutive seasons.
However, the winning streak ended for the Mercedes driver at the end of the 2021 season. Ever since he wasn't able to win a single Grand Prix race.
Christijan Albers recently mentioned the seven-time World Champion in his column for De Telegraaf, as he said he believes him to be the only driver who could possibly challenge Max Verstappen.
On the other hand, the Former F1 driver suggested he noticed signs of frustration in the 39-year-old. He suggested he understood such feelings would eat the Mercedes driver as he wrote:
"Hamilton looked quite frustrated at the end of the season. I can imagine that too. Sure, he’s had years where he beat everyone but has now gone two full seasons without a win. That’s going to eat at you."
Hamilton's contract with Mercedes currently lasts until the end of season 2025, and his goal is to ideally get the eighth Championship by then.
The age is starting to play against the 39-year-old as he gets older and older. On the other hand, Fernando Alonso is 42 years old, and he showed everybody in 2023 that age does not have to be an issue.
Nevertheless, Hamilton wants and needs a more competitive car to compete for the Championship with the Dutchman. Albers added:
"He wants more and more but struggles with the fact that the Mercedes is not going faster. Then, at the end of the year, you are exhausted and tired. He hasn’t had that boost of a moment of furor that you need for a while"
