Red Bull Racing team, an expert in producing Championship Formula One cars, decided to launch a hypercar project, and here is everything you need to know, including recent news.
Red Bull - an energy drink company, isn't exactly known by many people for producing fast cars. That's because the company hasn't produced any in its history.
On the other hand, Red Bull has been part of Formula One for a longer time, and since 2005, the company owned its own team, which has achieved great success throughout the years.
In 2023, Red Bull completed the most dominant season F1 has ever seen. The Austrian company already proved they have what it takes to build fast cars.
What is interesting, Red Bull follows the opposite trajectory of other car manufacturers, who started by producing slower road-legal cars and gradually move up through different motorsport classes to F1.
Red Bull started at the pinnacle of motorsports and showed they have what it takes. Now, they are moving lower to extend their expertise into different classes, starting with hypercars.
In 2022, it was announced the company would be launching its RB17 project. While many details about the new hypercar stay secret, we gathered what is already known.
To design and produce the hypercar, Red Bull created a separate division called Red Bull Advanced Technologies (RBAT)
It is expected the RB17 will have a twin-turbocharged V8 hybrid powertrain making 1,250 horsepower. It is expected the car will make use of Red Bull Racing's F1 technologies.
It is not clear at the moment what company will produce engines fitted inside the vehicle, but Red Bull's recent collaboration with Ford might include a supply of engines for the RB17.
While Chrisitan Horner admitted a possibility of making the closed-roof vehicle road legal, it will most likely be a pure track-old hypercar.
Estimates indicate the car will cost around £5 million ($6.37 USD million at current exchange rates). There will be only 50 produced majority of which are already booked.
The car is expected to be an aerodynamic masterpiece as Adrian Newey (Red Bull Racing's chief technical director) is highly involved in its development.
Red Bull Racing's team principal, Christian Horner, recently revealed the RB17 will be launched in 2024. As he explained Newey has been quite busy with the design of the car. He told Sky Sports:

"What is great, as well, is that we have such great strength in depth in our technical team. Adrian with his wealth of experience is able to mentor and develop that team - as well as designing the RB17 our first ever track sportscar which will be unveiled in 2024."
