Red Bull Racing advisory Helmut Marko suggested Liam Lawson should drive at least a few more races before he gets his seat in a Red Bull family team in 2025.
Liam Lawson unexpectedly got his chance to shine in 2023 after Daniel Ricciardo's hand injury during the Dutch Grand Prix Free Practice session.
The injury put the Honey Badger out of the seat of his AlphaTauri for the next five races, which meant the team needed somebody to fill his role, and Lawson's name came up.
The Dutch Grand Prix was one of the most challenging races of the season because the track conditions constantly changed from dry to wet.
Driving an F1 car for the first time during a race like this was not an easy task for Lawson, but he managed to bring it home and even finished better than his teammate Yuki Tsuonda.
His potential showed already during his first race, but his best moment came during the 2023 Singapore Grand Prix, where he scored the best result of the season for his team at the time by finishing in P9.
The Kiwi showed incredible potential for a driver of his age, but after five races, he had to let Ricciardo back into his F1 seat, and unfortunately, there was no seat left in an F1 car for the 2024 season.
Even though he didn't get a seat in F1 for 2024, AlphaTauri team principal Franz Tost said he expects to see him back in 2025 when 14 drivers' contracts expire.
Red Bull Racing advisory Helmut Marko was asked in a recent interview with OE24 whether Red Bull still plans to give a seat to the 21-year-old in 2025, and he said:
"MARKO: Yes, and before that, he should at least drive a few more races so that we can see where his potential really lies."
Red Bull GmbH currently has four seats in F1, three of which are uncertain for season 2025. But the question remains: who could Lawson possibly replace?
