The seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton recently shared his reason for choosing Mercedes over Red Bull in competing for the Championship.
Red Bull has had quite clearly the dominant car of the 2023 season with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez securing a one-two in the Drivers' Championship.
The seat under Perez is very hot at the moment, and multiple drivers on the F1 grid would like to replace him after his current contract ends at the end of 2024. As reported by RacingNews365, Lewis Hamilton told the media:
"Let's be realistic, every single driver that is racing here dreams of being in a winning car, and I think in my younger days when I hadn't maybe had a lot of success in the McLaren days, it was a lot more attractive."
The seven-time World Champion made a courageous move ahead of the 2013 season when he went from one of the best teams - McLaren to a worse team - Mercedes.
The 38-year-old moving to a less successful team with a "vision of growing and building with a team" was a much more enjoyable feeling for him.
"Every driver here looks at the Red Bull car and would love to drive that car, and I am not saying that I wouldn't love to drive that car and feel how good it is, every driver would feel that.
While the Mercedes driver admitted he would love to try and drive the Red Bull car to see how it feels, he would rather build a similar or better car with Mercedes to repeat the great feeling from 2014.
"We've had two difficult years, and if we work towards being that car, it is going to be a way better feeling than stepping into the best car."
In relation to joining Red Bull, which already has the fastest car, the seven-time World Champion shared it would not do much for him.
"That wouldn't do much for me, in the sense of stepping into the car that is the most dominant of all-time. Working with my team to build and be able to beat them, that would be better for my legacy."
