Red Bull Racing team principal
Christian Horner commented on the race results of his two drivers,
Max Verstappen and
Sergio Perez.
The 2023
Las Vegas Grand Prix was the first race in a while where it was unclear whether Red Bull would be the fastest car on the track.
However, the two Red Bull F1 drivers ended up winning the inaugural race at
Las Vegas Strip Circuit, crossing the line in P1 for Max Verstappen and P3 for Sergio Perez.
By finishing the race in third place, Sergio Perez achieved second place in the Drivers' Championship,
completing his team's last goal for the 2023 season. Christian Horner told Sky F1:
"It's something as a team we've never achieved before. I mean, what more can you ask for from your drivers and first and second enter in the Drivers' World Championship?"
"And his [Perez's] form, his pace was right there again. The last two or three races, he's really been finding his form again."
Perez went into the weekend with a bit of a higher downforce setup, which slowed him down on the straights compared to
Charles Leclerc and his teammate Verstappen.
This would be a disadvantage towards the end of the race when Leclerc started catching up with him and overtook the Mexican driver on the race's final lap. Horner also praised Verstappen:
"Max was dropping back at the end of the race to try and give him a bit of a tow. And it just wasn't quite enough today, But coming from the back of the grid. You know, after a nose change on the first lap, I thought he drove a great Grand Prix."
