Scuderia
Ferrari team principal
Frederic Vasseur recently noted that it is important not to think
Red Bull has one magical innovation that gives it five-tenths of a second advantage.
While it would be reasonable to estimate Red Bull would start the 2023 season a bit ahead of all the remaining teams on the grid, nobody expected such a significant difference as we have seen during the first race in Bahrain.
Both Red Bull Racing F1 drivers,
Max Verstappen and
Sergio Perez, finished the race more than 25 seconds ahead of
Fernando Alonso in third place.
However, Scuderia Ferrari made great progress in many areas of development and was the
second-best-performing team in the second half of the 2023 season.
Multiple fans assume it is one secret invention that separated Red Bull from other teams on the grid. On the contrary, Frederic Vasseur said, according to motorsport.com:
"I think the mistake would be to imagine that Red Bull, they have a magic bullet of five tenths or that we made a step on something."
The Ferrari team principal explained the final results are influenced by som much more than just one magical innovation. He continued:
"The performance is coming from everywhere into the company, on the fact that we are able to produce parts quicker, on the fact we have better reliability."
Ferrari finished the season 454 points behind Red Bull, but Vasseur says the team lost too many points because of four retirements, two DNSs (did not start), disqualification, and other problems. He concluded:
"We gave up too many points this season for different reasons, for reliability, for disqualification in Austin, for impeding in quali. This is clearly where we have to work."
