The team principal of Aston Martin, Mike Krack, commented on the announcement of Fernando Alonso's contract extension with a "multi-year" agreement.
Fernando Alonso is 42 years old and will turn 43 this season. However, his age has not impacted his performance over the last two years at all.
The Spanish matador was a key to Aston Martin's success in 2023, as he achieved all eight of the team's podiums and will continue his incredible work in 2024.
Mike Kack made it clear early on that his team was aware of how good of a driver they had in Alonso. He said the team was interested in extending his contract and was waiting for the Spaniard to make the decision.
Since the beginning of the season, the double-world champion has been telling the media that he wants to see how he feels first, and then decide whether to continue.
Alonso also stated that if he were interested in racing in the years to come, he would first talk to his team, and according to Krack, he stayed true to his word.
"Securing Fernando's long-term future with Aston Martin Aramco is fantastic news. We have built a strong working relationship over the last 18 months and we share the same determination to see this project succeed."
"We have been in constant dialogue over the last few months and Fernando has been true to his word: when he decided he wanted to continue racing, he talked to us first. Fernando has shown he believes in us, and we believe in him."
As the most experienced driver in F1 history, Alonso is someone that any team would want to have, especially going into the 2026 regulation change.
Feedback from drivers will be essential in developing the new cars, and the Spaniard is someone on whom the team can rely. Krack added that the multi-year agreement will last at least until 2026.
"Fernando is hungry for success, driving better than ever, is fitter than ever, and is completely dedicated to making Aston Martin Aramco a competitive force."
"This multi-year agreement with Fernando takes us into 2026 when we begin our works power unit partnership with Honda. We look forward to creating more incredible memories and achieving further success together."
