The team principal of the second team in the Constructors' Championship in 2023,
Toto Wolff, recently answered the question about learnings from the most recent season.
On the other hand, Silver Arrows are not where they want to be, and the team has made multiple mistakes throughout the season. Asked to reflect on his learnings, Wolff said in
Mercedes' 2023 season review video:
"We learned a lot. The races and the seasons that are difficult are the ones where you learn the most. And we always say, the days we lose are the days our competitors are going to regret because we learn the most."
One of the lowest points of the season for Silver Arrows was
the race in Sao Paulo, where the team underperformed significantly compared to its rivals.
While both Mercedes drivers and their team principal shared their disappointment when talking to the media after the race, they all later admitted important lessons were taken from that weekend.
"I think there are so many lessons that we learned as an organization, as humans, but also technically, that will be beneficial going forward."
Mercerced suffered with oscillating performances throughout the whole season as their car would perform very differently from circuit to circuit.
"During the year, we realised that our car was not operating in as stable a manner as we had predicted."
Consequently, the team principal stated the most important learning of the season was related to the development of Mercedes car. Wolff concluded:
"That is perhaps because we didn't develop it in the necessary window. It was clear that the interaction between chassis and tires didn't work perfectly. So, in that respect, this was the most important learning."
The Austrian also told the media recently that Mercedes is
planning to change their car completely going into the 2024 season. Do you think their learnings from the 2023 season can help Mercedes compete for the championship next year?
