Zak Brown described his highlight of the 2023 season with McLaren driver Lando Norris during the British Grand Prix.
McLaren F1 driver Lando Norris stated that the 2023 season has been the best year for McLaren ever since his arrival five years ago before the season 2019.
Even the Papaya team itself might not have expected to make the progress it made. McLaren effectively went from ninth to the second or third-best team on the grid by the end of the season.
The turnaround came at Silverstone Circuit, where McLaren had upgrades on both of its cars, and the drivers utilized it to the best of their abilities as Norris finished second and Oscar Piastri fourth. Zak Brown wrote in his letter:
"A personal highlight for me this year was our home race at Silverstone when Lando burst into the lead at the start, with Oscar following close behind."
Norris started his home race - the British Grand Prix, from second place on the grid but got into the lead right away with a great start off the line. When British fans saw their driver in the lead, they went crazy.
"Hearing the British fans erupt from the grandstands was a truly spine-tingling moment. Lando has been at the top of his game in 2023, showing tremendous pace and terrific racecraft."
The 24-year-old driver described standing on the podium after the race in front of his home crowd as the best experience in his F1 career by far.
While the British driver is still waiting for his first F1 Grand Prix victory, his CEO is convinced it is very close, as Norris collected six second-place finishes during the 2023 season.
"He can often be hard on himself when he makes a mistake, but his seven podiums are a testament to his speed and determination. That first win for him is just around the corner."
