Lando Norris is one of the most talented drivers in Formula 1, but he's yet to win a race in his career, despite being close multiple times.
The Belgian-born British driver entered F1 in 2019 as a
McLaren driver, and he has remained with the team ever since. In fact,
Norris extended his contract with McLaren beyond 2025, which was the original end date.
That shows that the 24-year-old has a lot of belief in his team, and since
he wants to win races and championships, the team is likely heading in the right direction for him to achieve that goal.
McLaren is one of the teams that has a history of winning, with the likes of
Lewis Hamilton and Ayrton Senna guiding their car to the World Championship. Now, Norris wants to be another driver to achieve that.
And he certainly can do that, but first, he needs to win his first race. Many times in his career, the British driver came very close to that, but ultimately, he never stood on the top of the podium.
One of the races that stands out is certainly the 2021 Russian Grand Prix. Prior to this race, Norris had achieved five podiums, and his most recent race before Russia was a second-place finish at the
Italian Grand Prix behind his teammate
Daniel Ricciardo in what was the team's first win since 2012.
For Norris, it was certainly a disappointing result, as he was arguably the better driver in that season, but still, in the race when he could have won, he finished behind his teammate.
Therefore, it was not surprising that when he lead in the following race, which was hit by rain, he opted for a more risky strategy, which ultimately didn't pay off and he finished seventh.
Now, Norris has stood on the podium already 13 times, and multiple times on the second place, and to see why he'll change that in 2024 is really is.
McLaren's car has been heading in the right direction since the middle of the 2023 season, and if their progress should follow, then without a doubt they should have a car capable of winning a race in 2024.
With a car, which could at least challenge for a race victory, Norris is without a doubt driver who is able to put the car on the top spot, as he has shown his maturity many times in his career.
On top of that,
the Brit seems to be really motivated, and that's a perfect cocktail, which can bring him the win that he's been waiting for for already 104 races.
