The seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton asserted that F1 still needs to develop as a sport with more women.
Formula 1 has been and still is a male-dominated sport. A couple of reasons contribute to this, such as historical precedents, cultural norms, a lack of role models, and development and support structures.
While more women are joining engineering teams, there is still no female F1 driver on the grid. Susie Wolff is trying to address this with F1 Academy.
F1 Academy is an official series launched by Formula 1 with the aim of promoting and developing young female talent in motorsport.
One purpose of F1 Academy is to create a pathway for female drivers who prove themselves to progress into higher series like F3, F2, and hopefully even F1 in the future.
Although some, like Max Verstappen, expressed doubts about how F1 approaches the program and suggested it could have been done better, it is a first step in making the pinnacle of motorsport more accessible for women drivers.
The seven-time World Champion Lewis Hamilton commented on the topic of females in Formula 1 during his interview with GQ Magazine, where he said:

"We still need more women in the sport. And to fight to make sure that there are more and more women to put out at the front, in view, for young women and girls to be able to see that this is a place for women."

The 39-year-old Mercedes driver has been doing his best throughout the last couple of years to make the sport of Formula 1 more inclusive as a whole with multiple initiatives like Mission 44.
Hamilton worked on promoting diversity within Mercedes and encouraged all of its sponsors and partners to do the same. He plans to continue his work in Ferrari once he joins the team in 2025.
