Former F1 driver Johny Herbert suggested he couldn't understand how
Lewis Hamilton "shows real raw speed" in one race, "and then it all vanishes."
Mercedes F1 driver Lewis Hamilton has
not finished on the podium for seven races in a row, and his
average finishing position since the summer break is
P7 (excluding the DNF at the 2024 United States Grand Prix).
While Mercedes didn't have a car to compete with the top three teams -
Red Bull,
McLaren, and
Ferrari, the seven-time World Champion was also outperformed by his teammate in equal machinery -
George Russell in
five out of these last seven Grand Prix races.
Hamilton struggled, especially in the United States and Sao Paulo. In Austin, he got knocked out of Q1 in qualifying and then retired after beaching his car in two laps after the start of the Grand Prix.
In Brazil, the Mercedes driver got
knocked out of Q1 again, and after a tough race, he ultimately finished tenth,
50.753 seconds behind the
race winner Max Verstappen.
The 39-year-old was
very disappointed after this Grand Prix. He said he has never had a worse car and also suggested he already couldn't wait for the Christmas break. Reacting to this statement and his performance, Johny Herbert told SafestBettingSites:
"Lewis Hamilton can't wait to get to Christmas. It is very confusing. There are times when he shows his real raw speed and then it all vanishes."
"How and why does that happen? That's what I don't understand. The car is a bit up and down like a yoyo anyway and George has similar issues."
"Lewis is coming to the end of his time at Mercedes and George is the future. And Antonelli is lined up for next season. They will be favouring Goerge and a lot of the energy and input will be coming from him."
"They want to make him feel as positive as they can before next season when he is the team leader. He is delivering too now."
