Eddie Jordan and David Coulthard agreed on the most recent episode of their podcast that they cannot imagine
Red Bull keeping
Sergio Perez for 2025.
Red Bull Racing F1 driver Sergio Perez finds himself in a similar position to the 2023 season, where many F1 fans and experts suggest he should be and will be replaced before 2025.
What is strange is the
difference between statements from Red Bull leaders (
Helmut Marko with
Christian Horner) and the Mexican driver himself.
Marko suggested everything will be evaluated at the end of the season. He said that Perez's future isn't certain, and
Liam Lawson with Yuki Tsunoda are potentially fighting for promotion to Red Bull at the moment.
Horner also suggested that there comes a time when
Red Bull might potentially have to make a tough decision. On the other hand, Perez keeps claiming he
will 100% be driving for the Austrian team in 2025.
Former F1 team owner Eddie Jordan cannot imagine such a scenario, considering that Red Bull already considered replacing Perez at the end of 2023 and in the middle of 2024, and his performance still hasn't substantially improved. He said on the Formula for Success podcast:
"Perez, you know, he's now had, how many chances has he had? Do you think he'll have a drive next year, David? Not a chance. Not a chance."
"He's a lovely, lovely, lovely guy. But we know lovely guys don't win you Grand Prix. Whereas Lawson is the deal, he's part of the family there, he's part of the makeup and he should be in… He is the person that should be in that car."
While the co-host of the podcast, David Coulthard, didn't give such a bold statement, he agreed that if things continue as they are, it is tough to imagine Red Bull will want to continue with the 34-year-old driver into the next season.
"Well, look, I'm not going to disagree with the fact, Checo, lovely guy. He has been a Grand Prix winner. He has been a loyal servant as the team have been to him."
"But unless something happens in the next three races that gives you a whole lot of confidence that it's just an issue with this car, then the writing is very, very boldly on the wall."
