Verstappen's Father Jos Speaks Out After Speculations About Newey's Departure

Max Verstappen's father, Jos Verstappen, became the first to speak out after recent news of Adrian Newey's desired departure from Red Bull Racing.

The triple World Champion was playing around with the idea of leaving the team as he clearly previously had his father talking to Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff.

His main motivation was supposed to be the power struggle within Red Bull's F1 team, but as it seemingly calmed down in recent weeks, the 26-year-old said he is happy to continue with the team if everything stays as it is.

The problem is that it doesn't seem everything will stay the same. Red Bull's chief technical officer, Adrian Newey, who is largely credited with the team's superior car performance in recent years, reportedly wants out.

This could prompt the 26-year-old to reenter negotiations with Mercedes, and he apparently is supposed to meet up with the German team's leaders this week in Miami. As quoted by Racingnews365, his father said:

"I think everyone wants him, only I think Max is right for the moment. He has a fast car, but we also have to look further to 2026, so we are letting everything come to us at the moment. We stay very calm and see what will happen."

While Verstappen Sr didn't confirm a potential exit, it also doesn't seem from his words that his son's intentions would be to stay in Red Bull until the end of his contract. As to the situation with Adrian Newey, the 52-year-old didn't have much to say:

"I'm not going to say anything about that....whatever should I say about it? I don't know anything about it. There is a deal between him and Red Bull and the rest we'll see. I can't say anything about that. We all know how he has performed and how good he is."
