Red Bull Racing F1 driver
Max Verstappen won the 2023
Sao Paulo Grand Prix at
Interlagos Circuit after starting from the pole position.
Max Verstappen had an easier start to the race after
Charles Leclerc, who was supposed to start from second place alongside the Dutchman, encountered an issue during the formation lap.
A hydraulic issue sent Leclerc's Ferrari spinning into the wall, which meant he was out of the race before it even began. As a consequence, the second-place starting box was left empty and Verstappen had more breathing room on the start.
Nevertheless, the three-time World Champion had a great jump off the line, but his progress was soon hindered by the safety car that was deployed already in the first lap.
The collision between
Nico Hulkenberg,
Kevin Magnussen, and
Alex Albon resulted in a safety car and a red flag followed shortly after as there was a lot of debris on the track and barriers needed to be fixed.
A consequent race restart saw
roles reversed from the sprint race. This time around, Flying Dutchman started on the pole, and
Lando Norris from the second place.
The Red Bull driver knew he had to have a perfect start of the line. Otherwise, Norris would grab the inside into turn number one and make his race ten times more challenging.
Fortunately for the Dutchman, he had a better start than Norris and took the lead in the race. However, the
McLaren driver found enough pace to hold on to Verstappen for a while.
Norris got close enough to be able to utilize the DRS, which allowed him to try and go for an overtake into turn one, but the three-time World Champion got him covered by positioning his car on the inside.
After this battle, though, the McLaren driver dropped off. The rest of the race was pretty straightforward for Verstappen, who
managed the pace in the front and looked after his tires to bring home yet another win.
