Aston Martin F1 driver Fernando Alonso responded to the view of Alpine driver Esteban Ocon, whom he had a collision with during the Sprint Shootout.
Fernando Alonso and Esteban Ocon had an unfortunate incident in turn three during the 2023 Sau Paulo Grand Prix Sprint Shootout.
Ocon got his car out of shape, going into the turn where Fernando Alonso was standing outside of the racing line but in the middle of the track. Ocon had to correct his car and counter-steered into Alonso.
Both drivers were okay, but out of the shootout. Esteban Ocon labeled Alonso a "f**king idiot" on team radio right after the incident.
After the session, Alonso said he did not see the replay but was told Ocon lost his car a bit. The Spanish matador described the incident with the words "wrong place, wrong time."
Esteban Ocon, on the other hand, said he did not lose control of his car and felt he was not given enough space by the Aston Martin driver, which was the cause of the collision.
The Ocon's view was mentioned to the two-time World Champion, and he replied with a smile, saying he had already heard what the Frenchman said about him and the incident. As per Soymotor.com, Alonso told the media:
"Yes, I heard what that guy said. He’s still very immature and hasn’t changed his way of seeing things, but hey, there are other things that don’t change either. He came out behind me like last year and stayed there, like last year. So it’s all normal."
Both Ocon's and Alonso's cars were fixed in time for the sprint so they could both race starting side by side on the grid in P15 and P16. Alonso finished in P11 and Ocon in P14.
The Spanish matador had an incident with the other Alpine during the sprint race. Going into turn six side by side with Pierre Gasly, he was pushed out of the track with 2 of his wheels on lap 13.
"Whenever there is an Alpine, you have to be extra careful. We touched entering Turn 6… they must think our car is narrower than it really is, and I ended up in the grass again."
