It is well known by now just how dominant has been the 2023 season for Max Verstappen. The Dutchman has been the key to Red Bull's enormous success.
He won 19 out of 22 races and broke numerous records that we also summarized for you. Moreover, the Dutchman outperformed his teammate in every single aspect measurable.
Sergio Perez managed to go toe to toe with Verstappen during the first four races of the season, but then, something broke, and he could not match the Dutchman's pace again.
As identified by Horner, the Mexican's biggest problem has been qualifications. Struggling in qualifying sessions meant he always set himself back for the race and would not have a chance to catch the leading triple-world champion.
Verstappen, whose average qualifying position was 3, beat Perez in 20 of the 22 qualifications in 2023 as the 33-year-old's average position going into the race was 9.
The Dutchman also showed better consistency than his teammate as he finished every single race of the season, including sprint races.
Had it not been for Red Bull's struggles during the Singapore Grand Prix, Verstappen would have stood on the podium during every single race of the season.
Perez showed he had a great race pace as he managed to finish inside points during 19 out of 22 races of the season, but it still wasn't enough to match the 26-year-old who finished in points every single race.
Mexican's current contract with Red Bull expires at the end of 2024, and his future with the team depends purely on performance compared to the World Champion. Do you think he can improve next season and keep his seat?
