Adrian Newey has been an essential part of
Red Bull's success, but the team principal,
Christian Horner, suggested his team evolved not to rely on the chief technical officer anymore.
Red Bull Racing team' chief technical officer Adrian Newey is considered a legend in the sport of F1 for all the incredible formula cars he designed throughout his career.
The 65-year-old was with Red Bull during its successful era with Sebastian Vettel in the years 2010-2013, stayed with the team, and hugely contributed to Red Bull's success in the years 2021-2023.
Red Bull Racing team principal Christian Horner acknowledged Newey's contributions to the team but also mentioned there were multiple other people who helped with the design of the car that are not reliant on the CFO. He told
motorsport.com:
"Adrian is a big part of this team and big part of what we've achieved. But of course, his role has evolved over the last few years and the technical team beneath him led by Pierre Wache, they're doing a wonderful job and so that they're not reliant on Adrian."
While Red Bull values Newey and his contributions, just as any other organization, it can't rely on one individual for its success, and therefore, it has to evolve.
"He has the ability to come in, come out and work on other projects and I think that's part of the evolution of any team. Red Bull is a team that, we're stronger for having Adrian with us, but of course the rest of the team is evolving."
While Newey said in a recent interview he has no reason to leave Red Bull, he is already 65-year-old and the team has to be prepared for his retirement when it comes.
Do you think Red Bull would achieve what it has achieved in the last three seasons if it wasn't for their chief technical officer?
