Max Verstappen addressed the theory brought up by his father ahead of the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, suggesting that Red Bull didn't listen to his feedback.
Jos Verstappen (the father of the triple World Champion) told JOE radio station ahead of the previous race in Italy that Red Bull struggled with balance problems because the team hadn't listened to Max Verstappen.
Verstappen Sr also stated that his son was vocal (internally—inside the team) about balance problems from the start of the season, but the team did not listen to him because the problem didn't affect the results.
As reported by GpBlog, the media asked the 26-year-old Red Bull Racing driver whether he felt he wasn't being listened to at any point, and he replied:
“"There is definitely listening, but it is difficult to find a solution. We are checking things, but that will take longer."”
“"It's not like after the summer break I thought, 'Now all of a sudden things are going well.' We just need time to test and evaluate. It's just, unfortunately, taking a bit longer than we want."”
When asked about potential upgrades that would solve Red Bull Racing's current issues with the car, the Dutchman replied: "I'm not going to say too much about that right now."
While Verstappen denied that there wouldn't be any listening, he hinted that the Austrian team could have perhaps acted more urgently sooner.
Since Miami, he has been telling the media (at press conferences ahead of and after each Grand Prix) that his car wasn't the fastest, but he still managed to win a couple of races afterward.
After P6 and P8 finish for Red Bull drivers at the 2024 Italian Grand Prix, Max Verstappen believes that more people within the team understand the urgency of the situation.
“"Back then, we already won a few races we really shouldn't have won. As long as the urgency is there now, that's very important. And that's there now, I think."”
